Matt Hoyle is an American photographer based in New York City. He is most well known for his street photography in America and Australia as well as his publishes book, 'Comic Genius Portraits of Funny People'. Hoyle's make interest of photography is people, he has photographed hundred of people from around the world in many different photographic series. From 'Icebergs' where he photographed winter swimmers from around the world to a series called 'Freakshow' whereby he photographed portraits of many different types of people, who are considered 'different' in today's society.
Matt Hoyle uses a variety of processes in his work, all depending on what he is photographing. In the series 'Freakshow', he shot them all at a close up angle in black and white. On the other hand, his series 'Yesterday In America' was shot in colour with a variety of different angles and compositions. One key feature that I have noticed about Hoyle's work, is that although this is street photography, most, if not all of his portraits are posed.
Overall, the most of his photography, again varies between the series but they are all ascetically pleasing and easy to look at due to the basic composition and angles. A lot of his images with off a good atmosphere due to the compliance of the people that he is taking a photograph of, which makes the audience feel welcoming.
